You Don’t Have to Carry Every Version of You Forward

Reflection cover for You Don't Have to Carry Every Version of You Forward by Nickolene Lurch, about faith, personal growth, and becoming.

There are versions of ourselves that were necessary for certain seasons. The version that learned how to survive. The version that kept saying yes because she didn’t want to disappoint anyone. The version that stayed quiet to keep the peace. The version that accepted less because she hadn’t yet learned what she deserved.

I don’t look back at those versions of myself with embarrassment. I have compassion for them. They were doing the best they could with what they knew.

But growth has taught me something: just because a version of me helped me survive one season doesn’t mean she gets to lead me into the next one.

God is constantly shaping us.

“But we all… are changed into the same image from glory to glory…”
2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)

Sometimes that change looks spiritual. Sometimes it looks like stronger boundaries, different decisions, a quieter response, or finally being comfortable saying, “This no longer fits who I’m becoming.”

Growth doesn’t require you to hate who you used to be. Thank her. Learn from her. Then give yourself permission to keep becoming.

You are allowed to enter your next chapter differently than you entered the last one.

Keep flowing on purpose,
Nickolene Lurch
