When God Feels Quiet

Note from Nicki by Nickolene Lurch

There are seasons when God feels incredibly close.

Prayer comes easily. Worship feels different. You read something in Scripture, and it feels like the words were waiting specifically for you.

And then there are other seasons.

You still believe.

You still love God.

You haven’t walked away.

But somehow, everything feels quieter.

I’ve learned that we don’t talk about those seasons enough.

Sometimes we think admitting that we don’t feel as connected to God as we once did means something is wrong with our faith. So we keep showing up, keep saying the right things, keep encouraging everybody else, while privately wondering, God, where are You?

I’ve had moments when prayer felt more like discipline than desire. Moments when I didn’t have some deep revelation or powerful words to say. Moments when all I could offer God was, “I’m here.”

And maybe that counts for more than we realize.

Because a relationship with God cannot only be built on the moments when we feel Him.

Feelings change.

Life gets heavy.

Our minds get crowded.

Sometimes we’re exhausted. Sometimes we’re disappointed. Sometimes we’ve been praying about something for so long that we don’t even know what else to say about it.

And sometimes there isn’t one big reason at all.

We just feel…off.

But quiet doesn’t mean absent.

That’s something I’ve had to remind myself.

God doesn’t disappear because I don’t feel the same emotion I felt yesterday. He doesn’t move away because my prayer wasn’t powerful or because I struggled to concentrate while reading my Bible.

He is still God in the quiet places too.

So if you’ve been feeling a little disconnected lately, maybe you don’t need to force yourself into some big spiritual moment.

Maybe you just start small.

Talk to God honestly.

Sit with Him without trying to make the moment impressive.

Play the worship song.

Read a few verses.

Tell Him, “God, I miss feeling close to You.”

And then stay.

I think sometimes we’re waiting for God to dramatically pull us back when He’s simply inviting us to come closer again.

No performance.

No pretending.

Just relationship.

And if all you have today is enough strength to whisper, “God, I’m still here,” give Him that.

Because He’s still there too.

Until next time, keep flowing on purpose.

With love,

Nicki
