Some things were meant to die so other things could finally be born.

One of the greatest distractions in life is the temptation to keep looking backward. We replay conversations we wish had gone differently, revisit mistakes we wish we could undo, and carry regrets that God never intended for us to keep. Before long, yesterday begins to occupy more of our hearts than the future God is preparing.

But here’s the truth:

Your yesterday is in the tomb.

Your tomorrow is still in the womb.

The tomb represents what has already happened. It holds the pain you survived, the disappointments you couldn’t prevent, the relationships that ended, the opportunities you missed, and the version of yourself that no longer exists. While those experiences may have shaped you, they were never meant to define you.

The womb, however, represents possibility.

It’s the place where God develops things that cannot yet be seen. Before purpose is revealed, it is formed. Before a promise is fulfilled, it is prepared. Before a harvest is gathered, a seed must first be planted.

The problem is that many of us spend so much time standing at yesterday’s tomb that we fail to trust God with tomorrow’s womb.

The enemy doesn’t have to change your future if he can convince you to stay trapped in your past. If he can keep your mind focused on old failures, old wounds, and old disappointments, he knows you’ll struggle to embrace the new things God is doing.

That’s exactly why God said,

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth…”
Isaiah 43:18–19 (KJV)

Notice that God didn’t tell His people to deny their past. He simply told them not to become so consumed by it that they missed what He was doing next.

There is a difference between remembering a lesson and living in it.

Your past can teach you without imprisoning you.

Your mistakes can mature you without defining you.

Your disappointments can strengthen your faith without stealing your hope.

One of my favorite examples of this is Joseph.

Joseph had every reason to believe his story was over. He was betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison. From a human perspective, each chapter looked like another dead end.

But God never saw Joseph’s prison as his destination.

Every difficult season was preparing him for the palace.

If Joseph had allowed betrayal to become his identity, he never would have embraced his purpose. What looked like delay was actually divine preparation. God was developing a leader long before anyone else could see it.

Sometimes what feels like a burial is actually preparation for a birth.

The same is true in our lives.

There are seasons when God seems quiet. The doors haven’t opened. The answers haven’t come. The breakthrough hasn’t arrived. It may even feel as though nothing is happening.

But hidden doesn’t mean absent.

Think about a baby developing in the womb. For months, the most important work happens where no one can see it. Every heartbeat, every detail, and every stage of growth takes place before the child is introduced to the world.

God often works the same way.

While you’re wondering why nothing seems to be changing, He is quietly strengthening your faith, refining your character, deepening your trust, and preparing you for what comes next.

Don’t mistake God’s silence for God’s absence.

Don’t assume that because you cannot see the progress, there isn’t any.

And don’t keep visiting yesterday’s tomb when God is preparing you to give birth to something new.

Take It With You

You don’t have to carry yesterday into tomorrow. Take the lesson, release the weight, and keep moving. What God is developing in your next season deserves your faith more than your past deserves your fear.

Prayer

Father, thank You for reminding me that my past is not my destination. Help me release every regret, every disappointment, and every mistake that keeps pulling me backward. Give me the faith to trust You even when I cannot see what You’re doing. Strengthen my heart to embrace the new things You are preparing and help me walk confidently into the future You have already begun to shape. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Today’s Flow Note

Stop visiting the tomb of yesterday when God is developing something in the womb of tomorrow.

Before You Go

This week, stop introducing yourself by your pain.

Stop defining your future by your failures.

Stop believing that one difficult chapter determines how your story ends.

The Author of your life is still writing.

Whatever God is developing in this next season may still be hidden, but hidden doesn’t mean forgotten.

There’s still more to your story. And there’s still more in you.
